Jon Andersen fell in love with log home building when he began peeling logs in 1980 in Walker, MN. His apprenticeship was completed under the tutelage of a pioneer log home builder from British Columbia. It was here that Jon learned and perfected the craft of hand hewn log homes including the traditional technique of Norwegian log home builders using an interlocking "V-Joint" notch, known to be be superior for this type of construction.
During his seven year tenure, Jon mastered the basics of building log homes such as debarking and peeling logs by hand with a drawknife. Over time, Jon studied and perfected all critical phases of log home building from selecting the perfect log to build with; setting logs in place; scribing and chiseling notches and laterals; operating machinery and becoming an expert chain saw operator and artisan. Jon also worked on many log shells and "turn-key" log homes during his apprenticeship and in becoming a master craftsman in his own right.
Andersen Log Homes Company came into being in the fall of 1989 with a construction yard in Monticello, MN. Monticello is Jon's home town, and it was an excellent building site for clients where they frequently stopped to see their log home or cabin being built. Then in 1997 Andersen Log Homes relocated to Walker, MN, its now permanent site.
